First Bikepacking Trip | Video

First Bikepacking trip was a success! It’s like bike touring, but on a mountain bike, and over some gnarly terrain. You strap everything you need for a night of camping onto your bike and go have an adventure. A quick, overnight trip up to the Wasatch Crest from Park City after work. My buddy Tyler joined me for this sufferfest of a climb, but was all worth it the next morning for a 10mile descent back home. The Route we took started in Kimball Junction, then headed up the UOP, up BLT, followed by a very steep climb on Moose …

Enduro & XC Mountain Bike Racing | Lessons Learned from my 2020 Season

They say, no matter what fitness or skill level you’re at, racing will always make you a better rider. To that, I can completely agree. This 2020 season has been filled with many ups and downs, in both XC and Enduro. Even though these Midweek Mountain BIke races are just local, they are still highly competitive and filled with some of the best riders in the state. And this year, after riding pretty well in the Sport Category in 2019, I decided to jump up to the Expert Category (right below Pro). And boy was I in for a rude …

Microadventures | Ski Bike-Tour

Big adventures to high peaks and far off places that require maximum effort will always top my list as favorite things to do. Microadventures; however, fall at a close second. What are Microadventures you might ask? Well I guess there are different for everyone, but by definition it’s not an adventure until something goes wrong.  To me, an adventure is going out to do something that you are unsure you’ll be able to complete. That’s why a weekly run or ride isn’t really an adventure, it’s just an activity. So where does a microadventure fall exactly? Rather than extravagant trips …

Trek 920 Ultimate Adventure Gravel Bike Review

Reviewing bikes is something I’ve always wanted to do, but reviewing a bike that’s already 3-4 years old by the time I get it usually doesn’t warrant an online review. This Trek 920; however, is my first new bike I’ve ever owned. And with it being the first new bike I’ve ever owned, I cannot even begin to tell you how much I enjoy riding this bike. I’d even go as far as to say as it made me fall back in love with riding bikes. The Trek 920, advertised as Trek’s go-anywhere adventure touring bike, lives up to its …

Joys of Early Season Mountain Biking and Trail Running

It’s the spring, which normally means slightly warmer temperatures and a whole lot of time skiing the amazing Utah corn snow. Unfortunately with all of this Covid-19 craziness, those activities have been held off. So instead of skis, most of us here in Park City have transitioned to wheels and runs as the south facing hillsides are drying out. With new activities, come new challenges to get into shape for. And how horribly out of shape I realize I am. Zachary KenneyHi there, my name is Zachary Kenney and I’m an adventure filmmaker & photographer.  My passion is to tell …

Slickrock Mountain Bike Trail | Moab, UT

Some classic mountain bike trails fall short of the hype, but when it came to the Slickrock trail in Moab, UT, it far exceeded the expectations. Ever since I heard about this trail, it’s been on my bucket list. For some reason though, every time I go riding in the desert, we end up on another epic trail. So after two years of living in Utah, I finally got my tires on the infamous Slickrock trail. And let me tell you, it was an epic ride!  The trailhead is located 3 miles West of town, in the Sand Flats Recreation …

Meaningful Mountain Biking Story | Why are they so difficult to tell?

Why does it seem so difficult to tell a meaningful mountain biking story? For the past 4 years I’ve been seriously riding mountain bikes. And for the past 4 years, I’ve been hooked on watching mountain biking films and edits. But at the end of the day, and no matter how much backstory goes into a film, it’s focal point is always bike porn. By that, I mean endless cut sequences of riders slaying trails as fast as possible and with as much style as they can. Zero depth. As I’m writing this story, I’m watching Red Bull Media House’s new …

Become Your Own Bike Mechanic | Learn to Fix Everything

There are few things, on this earth, that are as important as being able to fix your own bike problems. Okay, maybe that’s a stretch, but you understand what I’m getting at. Rather than shipping your gear off to a shop to be fixed, or worse, resorting to buying completely new parts, start trying to fix it yourself. At first, this is a completely daunting task; but after you fix your first mechanical issue, it will be such a satisfying, self-sufficient, rewarding feeling. If you spend enough time riding your bike, you’ll eventually break a few things. Sometimes it’s as …

Mountain Biking Fruita, Colorado with Gregor the Trail Dog

When it comes to mountain biking, there’s simply no bad days. Whether it’s a cruiser lap on the local trails, or an all out sufferfest that takes all day. Mountain biking is amazing. Yet, there are some rides that I’ll never forget. And a Saturday spent riding in Colorado with my fiancé, Courtney, and our trail dog, Gregor will be one of those best rides of my life. The ride was nothing out of this world, a simple, yet challenging loop at 18 Road trail system north of Fruita, Colorado. We rode from our campsite, up to the forest road …
