Exploring Town of Kihei on the Island of Maui, Hawaii

Kihei, on the island of Maui, Hawaii, was significantly less touristy than Lahaina. And that is a good thing! It really seemed like this was the place people actually “lived” on the island if they were outside the big city Kahului. Of course there was a main town center, but this town really seemed to have the beach as the main focus for being here. The town stretched for miles along the coast facing due west, which led to some incredible sunsets each night. We went scuba diving right off the beach, even went surfing. Our time in Kihei was …

Full MAUI Hawaii Trip | Video

After going to the Big Island of Hawaii a few years ago, we were itching to get back anyway we could. So for our family trip this year, we headed over to the Island of Maui. The goal of the trip was to see and do as much as possible, and since we live in a land-locked state, spend as much time in the ocean as we could. We stayed all over the island, moving around ever other day, from Lahaina to Kapalua, then from Kihei to Hana, and then eventually to Kahului. We snorkeled nearly every day, I went …

Exploring Lahaina on the Island of Maui, Hawaii

Coming from a guy who lives in a tourist town, I know one when I see one. And Lahaina is definitely a tourist town. But I will say, tourist towns aren’t all bad, despite the connotations that they get for high priced restaurants and cliche T-shirt shops. After spending over a week on the island of Maui, we wished we could’ve spent more time in Lahaina. So much so, on our last day of the trip, we drove from Kahului all the way over to Lahaina, just to go snorkeling one last time before we got onto our red-eye flight. …

SCUBA Diving in Maui, Hawaii | VIDEO

Our trip to Maui this summer was centered around the opportunity to go SCUBA Diving. I got my open water certification just a week before flying to Hawaii. For my first real open ocean diving experience, it exceeded all of my expectations, and I couldn’t have asked for a better dive. We booked two dives with Maui Dive Shop which has a few dive shops around the island. On the day of the dive, we drove down to Maalaea Harbor where we’d meet the crew and hop onboard their charter. We lucked out and only had 3 other divers join …

Maui, Hawaii Trip | Diving, Snorkeling, and Hiking

Maui, Hawaii, what an incredible island! My wife, her parents, and I spent 10 days driving around the second largest of the Hawaiian Island chain. We spent as much time in the water as possible, while also getting our fill of fresh fish and beer when on land. Over the 10 days, we moved around quite a bit, staying in Lahaina, Kapalua, Kihei, Hana, and Kahului, each for a couple nights. This allowed us to see and explore different parts of the island without having to drive many hours each day. This was our adventure! Zachary KenneyHi there, my name …

Epic Manta Ray Experience|Night Snorkel in Hawaii

If you’ve ever been lucky enough to see a single Manta Ray swimming in the ocean, it is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Mantas, stunningly enough, can reach a wingspan of up to 23 feet. Even with their massive size, they are as graceful as a flock of Starlings. And during a trip to Hawaii this past May, I got to witness this first hand. And I can tell you, there is nothing else like it. My girlfriend Court and I spent 10 days road tripping around the Big Island of Hawaii. We got off the plane, grabbed …

Swimming with Sea Turtles in Hawaii

I had always imagined, since the moment we booked the flights to Hawaii, that I’d get the chance swim with a sea turtle. But I thought it was pipe-dream. The odds of finding a sea turtle, let alone swim with one, were slim to none. Even as we gathered our bags from the baggage carousel at the airport, I was holding out hope that all the turtle memorabilia found in the gift shops weren’t going to be the only ones I’d see on the trip. And some times, you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on an excursion or …

Road Trip Guide to the Big Island of Hawaii

To me, Hawaii has always felt like another country. Sitting there alone, off in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. A tropical paradise, just out of reach from the mainland United States. Which is partly the reason why my girlfriend Court and I chose it as the destination for our most recent trip. And because flying anywhere far from Utah takes forever and can be quite expensive. Nevertheless, we planned to road trip around the entire Big Island of Hawaii, despite the endless news coverage of the erupting volcano and lava flow. And thankfully we did, because this trip was …

Trip to the Big Island of Hawaii

For 10 days, we drove around the Big Island of Hawaii exploring everything above and below the water. We made stops to stay in Kona, Naalehu, Mountain View, Hilo,  Kawaihae, and plenty of places in between. We brought our own snorkeling gear so that we could hop in to the ocean anywhere we could. In that same bag, we packed our camping gear to spend a few nights under the stars at a beach park. Can’t wait to write about our adventures and what we learned along the way. Most notably, that the news sensationalizes the impact that the volcano …
